Yesterday my 8 year old sat down next to me and said “Mom, I’m not sure if I want to be an artist when I grow up or a rock star.” She was SO serious. It’s things like that that we forget, the best little moments. Even as I write this I think “maybe I’ll remember that” but experience tells me that I won’t, so I wrote it down.
We have a small chalkboard on the wall in the mudroom. When the girls were little, before they could read, that’s where I’d write our little moments. When the board was full I’d take a picture of it and when things were quiet I’d transfer what I had written into their baby books. Now that they are older, I’m still in the habit of writing down the little things. I have two notebooks by my bedside where things like Skyler’s future career goals are written. They’re little things, but they are special little things and they’re things that I really want to remember.
