The details
“I have a B.S. in Environmental Science with a concentration in plant ecology. I read in one of my books that you could make paper from plants. I tried it and I was hooked! I made paper all the time, continuously experimenting. In 1997 I decided to be a vendor at the Portland Saturday Market. When I was thinking about what I’d sell I just thought, “I’ll make books”. In 1999 I had the privilege of working at Oblation Papers and Press, making paper for their bindings and wedding invitations. My beginning years were hybrid years where I made books out of the paper I made, that evolved into wedding albums and that into fine bindings. Along the way I’ve taken many classes all over the country, taught some classes along the way, became the 11th graduate of the fine binding program at AAB, had 2 amazing kids and started a business designing and installing butterfly gardens.” - Deborah
